Drake Maye stays winning on and off the field.
The New England Patriots suffered through their third consecutive losing season last year, but they found a franchise quarterback in former UNC standout Drake Maye.
Compiling a storied collegiate career that included 2022 ACC Rookie and Player of the Year honors, Maye quickly proved he belonged at the NFL level, despite starting his rookie year as Jacoby Brissett’s backup. Maye threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns during his first NFL start, which came during a Week 6 matchup against the Houston Texans.
While there’s plenty of anticipation for Maye’s sophomore NFL season, he’s also enjoying the best offseason of his career, recently marrying longtime girlfriend Ann Michael Hudson.
What you may not know about Maye’s wedding, though, is the incredible generosity Maye and his wife displayed. 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Scott Zolak reported the Mayes donated all their wedding gifts – to local kids shelters.
Drake Maye isn’t even an established NFL star yet, but this type of gesture from a young player earns him tons of respect around the league.
New England shocked the NFL early during its 2024-2025 season, beating the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, but slumped back to reality with six consecutive losses. This cold stretch played a part in the Patriots starting Maye, who played well despite a lack of offensive weapons.
Maye threw for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions during his rookie NFL campaign, which also included 421 rushing yards and two additional scores. Maye threw for 200 yards minimum in all but two of his starts, highlighted by a season-best 282 against the Los Angeles Rams.
