Maybe one day the Cowboys will come back to Wichita Falls, but not in the near future.

From 1998-2001, Wichita Falls was the home of the Dallas Cowboys training camp. Want to get in football shape? That Wichita Falls summer weather will have the calories melting away. After Wichita Falls, the Cowboys have rotated between San Antonio and Oxnard, California for their training camps (not counting 2020 Covid year in Frisco). However, Oxnard has been the permanent home since 2012 and it looks like that will stay that way through 2030.

The Dallas Cowboys have been practicing at the River Ridge Playing Fields in Oxnard and according to sources the team will stay there for the next five seasons. The team is paying $75,000 per year to stay in Oxnard. The Cowboys have a very loyal fan base in Southern California and actually spent several decades having their training camps not to far away when the legendary Tom Landry was the coach.

The criticism that Oxnard, California gets is that the Cowboys have never won anything when they train in California. Not true at all. The Dallas Cowboys old training camp was thirty minutes away from the current location. Tom Landry had the Dallas Cowboys training at California Lutheran College from 1963-1989. During those years the Cowboys played in ten NFC Championship games, played in five Super Bowls, and won two Super Bowls during that span. So California, can breed champions for the Cowboys.

Many would like to see the Cowboys return to Wichita Falls for a training camp at some point, but hopes are very low right now. We got some pretty amazing stories out of those training camps. Like Michael Irvin stabbing a teammate (allegedly) and Hank Hill brought his son Bobby to Wichita Falls so he could see the Cowboys. The Dallas Cowboys kickoff their 2025 training camp on July 20th, the first open practice for fans is July 22nd. They will return to Texas on August 14th.
