Indiana football continues to gain recognition ahead of the upcoming season, with eight Hoosiers named to Phil Steele’s 2025 Preseason All-Big Ten teams, tying the program for the sixth-most selections in the conference.
Four Indiana players landed on the All-Big Ten First Team: wide receiver Elijah Sarratt, defensive end Mikail Kamara, linebacker Aiden Fisher and cornerback D’Angelo Ponds. Offensive tackle Carter Smith earned a spot on the Second Team, while quarterback Fernando Mendoza, defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler and offensive lineman Pat Coogan were placed on the Third Team.
The Hoosiers are tied with Iowa and Illinois for the sixth-most total selections. Penn State led the way with 15 honorees, followed by Oregon (13), Ohio State (11) and both Michigan and USC with nine apiece.

Indiana was represented at nearly every position group except for running back, tight end, safety, and special teams. Notable players absent from the preseason list include running back Roman Hemby, safety Amare Ferrell, wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and kicker Nicolas Radicic.
Five of Indiana’s honorees — Sarratt, Kamara, Fisher, Ponds and Smith — are returning players from last season. The other three — Mendoza, Wheeler and Coogan — arrived via the transfer portal and are expected to step into prominent roles in 2025.
Steele’s annual preseason list is a long-standing barometer of talent and depth in college football, offering a snapshot of how each team stacks up ahead of fall camp.
