In an interview with “The Dan Patrick Show” from Lake Tahoe, former Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams told the harrowing story of missing a hand signal from quarterback Aaron Rodgers during one of his first games as a rookie.

Adams said he misinterpreted Rodgers’ pre-snap signal, ran a slant instead of a different route and ended up in the wrong place on a passing play against the Detroit Lions early in the 2014 season.

And Rodgers, still a fiery young quarterback, was NOT happy about it.

“He’s flying at me. When you see that finger come out and he starts skipping, you know it’s problems,” Adams said.

Adams, now a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, said the moment changed him as a player. The next week, he changed his preparation habits and dove into the details.

“The man changed my life. He got me dialed into knowing how important the small things are in this game,” Adams said.

Shaped by an early embarrassing moment and given a chance to play with one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, Adams eventually emerged as one of the NFL’s best wide receivers. And now Adams and Rodgers rank as one of the best quarterback-receiver combinations of the generation.

Adams played eight seasons in Green Bay, all with Rodgers. He caught 669 passes for 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns over 116 games for the Packers, with most of the production coming via the right arm of Rodgers.

Adams is preparing to play the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Rams after finishing last season with Rodgers in New York.
