Deion Sanders Fired Up in First Appearance Since Before NFL Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The most popular head coach in College Football has been noticeably absent from the sports media limelight for almost three months.

While that would not be breaking news for most coaches, it’s noteworthy for Coach Prime. It was confirmed by Deion Sanders Jr. via Well Off Media and secondary by Coach Sanders himself on the “Say What Needs to Be Said” podcast with Asante Samuel back in May.
For the head coach who famously says he’s “eight toes down”, most of the College Football world has been relatively content to give Coach Prime his privacy and allow him to work through what he has been battling.
After Coach Prime’s “God is good” opener, he moved right into thanking and promoting Colorado athletic director Rick George and Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark. Giving the hard sell on him being the best commissioner in College Football.
“I think we have the best Commissioner… I don’t think I know we have the best Commissioner in College Football. Man, he’s been calling me daily, checking on me to make sure I’m straight. Make sure I’m getting better and better. And man, I love ya to life.”

Sanders went into some of Colorado’s achievements heading into the 2025 season:
-CU sold out season tickets for the third year in a row, only the 11th time in school history
-24th recruiting class, third straight season with a top 25 recruiting class
-CU boasts 165 years of NFL experience on the coaching staff, 204 years if Byron Leftwich and Mike Zimmer join the staff
-2024 was the first season CU was on a flagship national network for every game of the season
-Four nationally televised games scheduled for the 2025 football season
David Ubben of The Athletic asked, “what have been the challenges of your health issues?” Prime has apparently been reading the publication and let his feelings be known. “Athletic, y’all be on some bull junk so I’m not really going to tell you much, Sanders said. “I’m not here to talk about my health, I’m here to talk about my team.”

Sanders was much more excited to talk about his receiver room. Sanders expressed his how he’ll unleash them, but understands the Buffs are replacing “some dawgs.” He even spent a few moments highlighting the rookie WRs who as he put it, “can flat out go get it”. Prime added that he is very proud of their recruiting class.
On his QB room, Sanders admitted that he brought both Quarterbacks to Frisco as he’s still not sure which one will start. Sanders confirmed he is open to both QBs playing. “We definitely want to develop JuJu, but Kaiden is unbelievable,” said Sanders. “Juju is coming round the mountain when he comes.”
Sanders was asked about Texas Tech coach Joey Maguire and his activity in the Transfer Portal. The Red Raiders snagged five-star offensive lineman Felix Ojo, who received the first guaranteed NIL offer with $5 million over the next three years in Lubbock.
Before the question was fully asked, Coach Prime began yelling “JOEY GOT SOME MONEY! Where you at Joey?! Spending that money!” He did not miss the opportunity to reference ‘Finesse2tymes’ lyric “It’s cool when they do it, it’s a problem when I do it”.

Sanders was also asked about Ken Dillingham’s accomplishments at Arizona State. Sanders mentioned that Dillingham is unbelievable, calling him a ‘close friend’.
“What he did last season was un-dern-believable,” Sanders said. “I didn’t get jealous, I didn’t get sensitive, I was just proud of him because we were virgins together coming into the then Pac-12. I want everyone to be successful, except for when they play us.”
Deion Sanders had strong comments regarding changes he would make to the state of college football, if he had a voice to do so.
“There has to be a salary cap on this stuff”, Sanders said. He added, “we have a player who told me of an offer he got from another school, and I’m trying to figure out why you guys haven’t investigated how that’s possible when the guy isn’t in the portal? Now if that was one of my guys, y’all would be all over it.”

Sanders is also not a fan of players being permitted to play without the full compliment of their pads and would welcome fines for it.

Despite Sanders being rather vague on his alleged health concerns, he was pleased to get off the stage in under 20 minutes. Typically, Coach Prime will say he has time today and will extend things. However, health concerns or not, Media Days are typically not an “I’ve got time today” situation as Sanders will likely also spend time speaking in break out interviews as well as national and radio row interviews.
Regardless of the brevity, it was good to see Coach Prime behind the microphone and promoting his team and conference.
