The Cincinnati Bengals boast arguably the most dynamic wide receiver duo in football with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. However, the team could look to add some more talent to the position group for quarterback Joe Burrow.
For the Win’s Cory Woodroof proposes a trade that would send wide receiver John Metchie III to the Bengals from the Houston Texans for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

“Metchie would be an excellent get for Cincinnati at this point in the offseason to compete for the fourth wide receiver spot on the roster. He may well win it. Particularly if injury struck, the Bengals having a solid receiver like Metchie on the roster would be pivotal,” Woodroof wrote.
Houston’s wide receiver room is filled with young talent, which has left Metchie as the odd man out. The 24-year-old missed his entire rookie season due to acute promyelocytic leukemia, but has been able to make a comeback and play 29 games over the last two seasons.
Metchie played 16 games in 2024, tallying 254 yards and one touchdown. The Alabama product needs a fresh start in order to find consistent playing time, and a trade to Cincinnati would be ideal.
Chase and Higgins are locked in as the No.1 and No.2 receivers, but Metchie would have a legitimate shot to be the No.3 receiver in Zac Taylor’s offense, at worst, the No.4 option. The young receiver’s dynamic skill set would pair well with Chase and Higgins, and Burrow would bring the best out of him.

Obviously, the Bengals don’t need to add another receiver to the roster. However, acquiring a high-potential player like Metchie for a late-round pick would be a savvy move from the franchise at this point in the offseason.
