In the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Virginia Tech running back Bhayshul Tuten.
Let’s break down the pick, and if you missed our other recaps, you can find them below.
Bhayshul Tuten’s profile
Tuten was the fastest running back at this year’s NFL combine, running a 4.32-second 40, which highlights the big-play ability he possesses and brings to the Jaguars’ offense.
After two seasons at North Carolina A&T, Tuten spent the last two at Virginia Tech. In 2023, he totaled 875 rushing yards at 5.0 yards per attempt, and then made a big jump production-wise this past season, rushing for 1,150 yards at a whopping 6.3 yards per rush. Tuten scored 25 rushing touchdowns over that two-year span as well.
Among all running backs, Tuten’s 6.3 yards per rush ranked 20th. He was also 15th in missed tackles forced, 15th in rushes of 10-plus yards, and 10th in rushes of 15 or more yards, according to PFF.
Along with his production in the running game, Tuten has some pass-catching experience as well, with 66 targets over the last two seasons.
When it comes to getting the Jaguars’ passing game back on track, as we saw last season in Tampa Bay with Coen, the running game plays an important role in accomplishing that. A strong run game keeps the offense out of predictable passing situations, and within Coen’s scheme, the run and pass game concepts build off each other and go hand-in-hand.
Bhayshul Tuten’s scouting report

Lance Zierlein: “If you spend too much time focusing on the small inconsistencies of Tuten’s college game, you run the risk of overlooking the match he is for the pro game. He’s an explosive athlete with average size but a compact frame. He has elite straight-line speed and easy hips to make sudden cuts and turns. He’s fairly average at reading the front and running with early decisiveness but creates with wiggle, power and speed. Drops and fumbles are a concern, but runners with his contact balance, power and home run speed put tremendous stress on defenses over four quarters. Tuten could become a starting-caliber back with three-down value.”
They said it
Liam Coen: “If you look at [Bhayshul] Tuten with the ability to strike from a distance,” Coen said via Jaguars on SI. “He can get to the second or third level and score from anywhere on the field. I think behind the line of scrimmage, forced missed tackles was through the roof for him in terms of getting back or at least getting yards after that contact behind the line of scrimmage.”
James Gladstone: “So we were jacked to be able to be in that position to prioritize him because at the end of the day, we want to level up the competition across the entirety of the roster, and running back is a spot that we’re going to lean on. As Liam can probably allude to, it’s so rarely just a one-person spot. It’s going to take a collective effort, just like the draft did.”
