The Bucs quarterback, Baker Mayfield, has made his journey around the NFL before finally landing in Tampa Bay and finding what seems like his forever home. He had to do the same thing in college, transferring from Texas Tech to Oklahoma before finding success, such as winning a Heisman Trophy and leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff.
That leads us to this week, when NFL Media’s Gennaro Filice gathered a unique list of the best trios in the NFL from the same college. They did not have to be at the school at the same time, just simply from the same school in general. Because of those standards, Oklahoma and Baker Mayfield earned the number one spot in the rankings.

He explains, “Oklahoma boasts the only trio in which all three positions are filled by a Pro Bowler from last season. CeeDee Lamb was a no-brainer choice at wide receiver. . .Joe Mixon didn’t have any real competition at running back. But quarterback was brutally hard to decide — and my selection undoubtedly will get me some hate mail from the City of Brotherly Love. . .Hurts continues to prove doubters wrong, having just hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. He skillfully pilots Philadelphia’s offense, using his arm and legs to put points on the board. But if you put Hurts and Mayfield in a vacuum, I’m just a little higher on the latter’s game right now. . .I’m pot-committed to Mayfield being a dark-horse MVP candidate, so I might as well throw a few more chips into the center of the table by predicting he’ll outplay the reigning Super Bowl MVP.”
Baker Mayfield being selected over a Super Bowl-winning quarterback is undoubtedly a positive endorsement, or a big indictment of what people think of Jalen Hurts. Regardless, it should make Bucs fans feel good that their quarterback is seen as one of the best in the league and good enough to lead the best trio of players in the NFL.
