Week 1 of the 2025 college football regular season will start with a bang. Ohio State is scheduled to host Texas in the first major game of the 2025 college football season. The Buckeyes and the Longhorns are scheduled to kick off at noon E.T. on Saturday, Aug. 30.

Heading into Week 1, ESPN’s computer model, the Football Power Index, has ranked the top five College Football Playoff teams, as we approach the 2025 college football regular season.

Who are the top five College Football Playoff contenders heading into the 2025 college football regular season?

According to ESPN’s computer model, here are the five teams with the best chances of making the College Football Playoff later this winter:

Unsurprisingly, the Big Ten and the SEC dominate the list, with all five teams. Texas and Ohio State, who are scheduled to meet Week 1, come in at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
