Chip Kelly inherits an offense with the Las Vegas Raiders which contains many question marks. The Raiders aren’t sure what they have at wide receiver, and their offensive line is a mystery. Given the many uncertainties facing this offense, Kelly needs his best players to be rock stars. One clear example is Brock Bowers. Raiders Wire has more on the star tight end in Vegas:

“In the six years since ESPN began doing offseason rankings based on votes from unnamed coaches and executives, a player coming off his rookie season has never been named the best his position…until today. Just like Brock Bowers made history, breaking the record for rookie tight end receiving yards, or breaking the record for rookie receptions, he has become the first player named the best at his position in ESPN’s offseason rankings. That’s at any position.

“Yes, Bowers has unseated the likes of George Kittle and Travis Kelce as the best tight end in the league according to coaches and execs. According to ESPN, Bowers received more than half the first place votes, narrowly beating out Kittle to take the top spot.”

Whether Brock Bowers is the best tight end in the NFL or the second-best is of minor importance to the Raiders. The key is getting the other units to play well around him so that he is placed in the best possible position to succeed. Chip Kelly’s scheme needs to enable Brock Bowers to come alive on a roster with more talent than what Bowers had one year ago in Las Vegas. If everyone — including Bowers — improves, the Raiders will likely get where they want to go in 2025.
