BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WNDU) – A fire on Sunday morning at Benton Harbor High School’s football field caused roughly $125,000 worth of damage.
According to officials, a golf cart caught fire, and the flames spread to numerous pieces of machinery used to lay the new rubberized track.
Officials believe the fire started in the golf cart engine compartment. It was ruled accidental.
The loss will reportedly be covered by the contractor’s insurance.
School officials are still hoping to have the new track finished soon.
