A former NFL star has died suddenly at 65 years old this weekend.
Luis Sharpe, a three-time Pro Bowl lineman who played all 13 of his NFL seasons with the St. Louis and Arizona Cardinals, has passed away. Sharpe’s death was announced by his wife on social media. Tameka Williams-Sharpe shared the tragic news on social media on Saturday, July 12.

“With deep sorrow and abiding love, I share that my beloved husband, Luis Sharpe, has passed away,” she wrote on social media, per The Arizona Republic. “His strength, love, and faith were a light to all who knew him. I am grateful for every moment we shared and for the many prayers and kindnesses extended to our family.
“Though my heart is heavy, I trust that Luis is now resting in God’s eternal peace. Please continue to keep our family lifted in prayer.”

Sharpe, a former first round NFL Draft pick, played in both St. Louis (1982-87) and Arizona (1988-94). He was a top draft pick out of UCLA, going No. 16 overall in the 1982 NFL Draft. Sharpe grew up in Detroit, Michigan before going on to star at the collegiate and professional level.

The former NFL lineman was as consistent as they come, starting all 189 of his career games with the Cardinals. He was a standout performer, making the Pro Bowl three times – in 1987, 1988 and 1989.
