The Chicago Bears offense will be one of the most intriguing storylines to watch during the 2025 season with new head coach Ben Johnson running the show. Quarterback Caleb Williams, along with his receiving weapons, will get most of the attention. But in order for the team to have a complete offense, running back D’Andre Swift will need to improve this season.
Last season, his first with Chicago, Swift totaled 959 rushing yards, 386 receiving yards, and six rushing touchdowns, while only averaging 3.8 yards per carry. This year, Swift will be reunited with Johnson, who served as the offensive coordinator while the two were part of the Detroit Lions in 2022, and the reunion should have a big impact on the run game.

Back in June, Swift spoke about the role he believes he’ll have within this new Bears offense, putting forth a team-first attitude. Understanding Johnson’s mentality as a tough-nose coach who wants players to earn the right to get the football, Swift is ready to do it all and let the football come to him.
“Whenever the opportunity presents itself, just make the most of it,” Swift said. “Whatever I have to do. If I’m blocking for DJ (Moore) to get the ball, for Cole (Kmet) to get the ball, we’ll have team success. Whatever the play-call is, just execute and do your job. The ball will find you.”
Swift’s comments line up with his new head coach’s mentality on accountability. In a league that’s quarterback-driven, the Bears not only need Williams to shine this year, but they’ll need Swift to have an uptick in production to take pressure off the young quarterback.
