Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs is heading to the UFL and signing with the San Antonio Brahmas, according to James Larsen of Pro Football Newsroom.
After nearly a year of fighting them, Buggs recently had animal cruelty charges against him dismissed, and he vowed to continue his football career. Now 28, Buggs hopes to return to the NFL this season.
Buggs was initially sentenced to 60 days of hard labor on two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty towards two dogs last July.
In addition to the animal cruelty charges, Buggs was charged in June 2024 with domestic violence burglary. A plea agreement reduced those charges to misdemeanor criminal trespass.
Buggs, a six-year NFL veteran, was released by the Kansas City Chiefs last summer following the charges.
Buggs was a sixth-round pick by the Steelers in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the team before being released.
However, he carved out a role for himself with the Detroit Lions, earning a starting job and eventually, a significant rotational role. Buggs also played the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024, winning the Super Bowl.
Now, with the Brahmas, Buggs hopes to hop on a moving train and showcase his talents in the UFL as he tries to pick his way back onto an NFL roster.
