In last weekend’s draft, the top storyline was the fall of Shedeur Sanders. The once projected first round pick went well into day three before the Browns ended his free fall, picking him in the fifth round. But before they could do that, there was an infamous prank call. The prank caller was Jax Ulbrich, son of Falcons DC Jeff Ulbrich who had apprently left his ipad out with Sanders’ private number available and Jax used that number for the prank call.
With that, several other draft prospect have since come forward to say that they too received prank calls on draft day. One of them, apparently, was Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty who Las Vegas selected at sixth overall.
Though, unlike with Sanders, in this instance Jeanty had no reason to believe it was real. Mainly because he’d already been selected by the Raiders and the caller apparently wasn’t very convincing.
Jeanty shared the details of the prank call on his TikTok and a fan posted it to Twitter.
Since Jeanty was drafted early, the call he received came after he was selected from someone claiming to be with the Cowboys, telling Jeanty Dallas at 12 overall had traded for him from the Raiders. Not exactly a likely scenario and Ashton wasn’t buying it.
“I was like ‘come on, bro'” sent me.
It’s good Jeanty wasn’t fooled and is able to laugh it off now.
Seriously though, there’s just too much of this crap going around. The league needs to do something about this. Some have suggested that not only should prospects have a designated phone with a number only given to NFL clubs — something they already do — but NFL clubs should have designated numbers from which they make those calls. That way prospects know immediately based on caller ID whether the call is legit.
