The 2025 season will mark the 50th anniversary for the Seattle Seahawks, but they will not be alone in this celebration. When the Seahawks came into the league in 1976, they were not alone, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were a fellow expansion franchise as well.
To help celebrate their 50th season, the Buccaneers unveiled a road version of their original uniform as part of their throwback wardrobe.
Tampa will (re)debut these threads during their Week 3 home opener against the New York Jets. However, I do not think the Bucs should wait much longer after that to put these back on. In Week 5, the Bucs will travel to the Pacific Northwest for a road showdown against their fellow 1976 inductee – the Seahawks.
If you’re like me, you’re thinking only one thing right now: what an incredible opportunity for a double throwback game! Seattle should absolutely wear their royal blue and silver home throwbacks, and Tampa should have their road white throwbacks as well. The Seahawks have been marketing their royal blues as their “90’s” throwbacks, but in reality, they date back to 1976 as well (with very little modification over the years). If this were to occur, it would be a strong contender for one of the best uniform matchup games of the upcoming season.
Additionally, Tampa revealing road throwbacks makes you also wonder if the Seahawks will do so as well. Rumors arose earlier this summer about Seattle potentially unveiling their own road throwback uniforms at the end of July. If the Bucs are doing it for their 50th anniversary, I have to imagine the Seahawks aren’t far behind them.
