New England Patriots linebacker Robert Spillane was named as one of the players to receive votes in ESPN’s top-10 off-ball linebackers list.
It’s a list compiled from the votes of executives, coaches and scouts. Spillane was viewed as one of the more underrated signings by the Patriots in free agency, and he could prove to be one of the team’s most impactful defenders in 2025.

He has racked up 145-plus tackles in the last two seasons. Last year, he added two interceptions, seven pass deflections and two sacks on top of his 158 total tackles. His work rate on the field is exceptional, and he’s a consistent veteran defender who should help solidify the defensive front.
It’s notable that he has experience playing under Patriots coach Mike Vrabel during his run with the Tennessee Titans. That should help him hit the ground running in New England’s defense. He was reportedly calling some of the defensive plays on the field for the team during the spring practices.
Spillane seems primed for a successful season on defense for the Patriots. Given all of the improvements the team made in the offseason, it could clear the way for the 29-year-old veteran to have one of his greatest seasons yet in the NFL.
