It has been a really rough go for the Buffalo Bills along their defensive line this offseason. …. and some of the bad news is the organization’s fault.

Buffalo walked into the 2025 offseason knowing it needed to make sweeping changes along their defensive line. Free agents like Michael Hoecht, Larry Ogunjobi, and Joey Bosa were all added at the start to help the group.

Then came the NFL Draft. Buffalo selected three more additional defensive linemen, including Kentucky standout Deone Walker and Arkansas edge rusher Landon Jackson.

None of these players will be fully ready for different milestones as the team prepares for training camp next week.

Bosa is coming off an injury suffered during offseason workouts that forced him to miss minicamp. The league suspended Hoecht and Ogunjobi for violating the substance abuse policy. Walker has been dealing with a back injury, and now there is the announcement that their third-round pick will miss the start of camp as well.

Jackson was a third-round pick by the Bills, and he was seen as a potential impact player for the franchise going into the 2025 campaign. Now, Jackson has been added to the team’s PUP list ahead of camp, according to the league’s daily transaction wire.

The Bills’ rookies reported to camp this week, and Jackson’s undisclosed injury was mentioned. While on the PUP list, Jackson cannot practice with the team to start his first training camp in the NFL.

That is bad news … even as it is assumed it is only temporary.

Rookies like Jackson need all the practice reps they can get during camp. For the Arkansas product Jackson to miss even the first few days means that he wil be behind the 8-ball on learning and putting into practice the complexities of Buffalo’s defense under coach Sean McDermott.

And … combine that news with all the current injuries and issues Buffalo is already dealing with in that D-line, being forced to be patient is something way short of ideal for camp.
