Compared to the other 31 NFL teams, the Indianapolis Colts have two of the largest total salary cap hits at the running back and defensive line positions.
According to Spotrac, the Colts have $20.43 million in cap space devoted to the running back position this season, which is the most in the NFL. Along the defensive line, the Colts have $81.78 million devoted to that position group, and that is the second-most this season.

Jonathan Taylor accounts for most of that cap space. He has a salary cap hit this season of $15.38 million. The second-largest cap hit at the running back position belongs to Josh Jacobs at $11.325 million.
So, even though cap-wise, the Colts don’t have any other big deals on the books, Taylor’s cap hit is enough to give the Indianapolis running back room the title of largest cap hit in 2025.
When it comes to the defensive line, we know that this is a position group that GM Chris Ballard has invested heavily in over the years, both in cap space and in draft capital.
At $26.6 million, DeForest Buckner has the largest cap hit on the team, while Grover Stewart is sixth, Kwity Paye is seventh, and Samson Ebukam is ninth.

Among all defensive tackles league-wide, Buckner’s cap hit is the highest, and Stewart ranks 13th. At defensive end, Paye ranks 14th and Ebukam 16th.
As the money indicates, these are two position groups that the Colts will rely heavily on this season and ones that will go a long way in determining the ceiling for this year’s team.
