The Eagles Truth Inside Coach Nick Sirianni’s Passionate Take On QB Jalen Hurts originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It wasn’t that long ago when Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts seemed – in terms of their relationship – to be on the outs. Following a troubling end to the 2023 season, reports suggested that the coach and quarterback were in conflict.

But … winning cures all.
Whatever frustrations each person had with the other? That is seemingly all evaporated now. Philadelphia’s run to Super Bowl LIX highlighted the improved relationship between Sirianni and Hurts. … and we will argue that Philly wouldn’t have marched to and won The Big Game without this pair being on the same page.
The partnership seems like a powerful one now …
So much so that the Eagles’ coach has come to the defense again of his quarterback. In a weird post-title backlash, criticism has grown for Hurts over the last few months. Some analysts believe the Super Bowl MVP has only become successful due to the talent around him.

Sirianni finds those claims nothing short of ludicrous, and has the perfect argument against them.
“One of the reasons I love football so much is that it takes everybody to accomplish your goals,” Sirianni said via ESPN, adding that ripping Hurts is “bull****.” “You can go ahead and start naming great quarterbacks, I’ll tell you their great receivers and their great defenses.
“You know, whether it’s Brady with Gronkowski or Brady’s defenses early on, Mahomes with Kelce, Steve Young with Jerry Rice, the list goes on and on and on.”
Sirianni’s comparison is actually on the money for Hurts and the Eagles. If one looks at any quarterback in league history with a Super Bowl title, they all have multiple things in common.

A top offense around them, or a historically great defense to dominate on the other side of the ball.
Those factors do not take away from how brilliantly the quarterback performed; It just means the individuals on the team as a whole dovetailed into a unit that was simply better than anyone else.
Hurts and Sirianni did that. So did the Eagles, from top to bottom. And that’s the balm against the criticism: They were – and maybe are – simply better than anyone else.
