Dolphins Trade Idea Swaps Tyreek Hill For Two-Time Pro Bowler originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Miami Dolphins feel like a team on the verge of a transition in 2025. The team struggled in 2024, finishing with an 8-9 record, while franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa again failed to stay healthy for a full season. The chips feel down for this version of the team, and if things go awry in 2025, ownership could clear house.

Despite the struggles from the previous season, the Dolphins’ offense has a chance to be one of the better units in the league once again. The interior of the offensive line has improved on paper through the additions of James Daniels and Jonah Savaiinaea, which could help a rushing game that struggles with consistency. The passing attack needs a bill of clean health and some playcalling tweaks.
However, wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s future is again up in the air. The five-time All-Pro receiver had his least productive season since his rookie year, catching 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 56.4 yards per game. That has contributed to Hill’s being unhappy and wanting a trade. One NFL writer may have a solution.

Per Daniel Arwas of Heavy, the Dolphins could trade away their supposedly disgruntled star and get, in return, another disgruntled receiver, Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders. McLaurin is reportedly unhappy with his current contract, and if talks on a new deal don’t progress, there’s a chance McLaurin could be on the move.

In the proposed deal, the Dolphins would trade Hill and a 2026 fifth-rounder to the Commanders for McLaurin and a 2026 seventh-rounder.
“Understandably, McLaurin wants a new contract. And although the Dolphins are not in the best cap situation of all time, alleviating the cap hit that would be incurred by Tyreek Hill in 2026 – a number north of $51 million (!!) – would allow them to sign former Ohio State star to a long-term deal without going into a New Orleans Saints-style continual, impending cap-hell.” Arwas writes.
The road to a deal wouldn’t be easy, and in some ways improbable, but if it were land, both teams would remain strong at receiver.
“Equally, if McLaurin is to be traded the Commanders would be exceptionally reticent to move him without finding a cogent replacement to act as Jayden Daniels‘ WR1, particularly in the midst of the former OROY’s critical and cheap five rookie years.”

The Dolphins, a team potentially on the brink of a reset, would have the opportunity to move off Hill while retaining a valuable asset in McLaurin, an excellent receiver in his own right, while the Commanders’ Super Bowl window remains open with the addition of Hill.
