The Chicago Bears addressed their defensive line in a big way this offseason, including the selection of defensive tackle Shemar Turner in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft.
In four seasons at Texas A&M, Turner totaled 115 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and three forced fumbles. While he will likely take time to develop at the NFL level, Turner has plenty of mentorship available to him as a rookie in Chicago.

One of those mentors is Gervon Dexter Sr., who’s entering his third season with the Bears, and the rookie has already caught Dexter’s attention. Last month, Dexter shared his initial takeaways on Turner, having been impressed with the rookie’s athleticism and he believes they can work and grow together.
“He has all the tools,” Dexter said of Turner. “He’s very athletic, very talented. So getting another guy like that, I’ll be able to grow with and see him, you know what I mean? Read some of the stuff that he want to do as well.”
Depending on the pace of his development, the Bears could have a high quality trio at the defensive tackle position with Turner and Dexter, working behind veterans Grady Jarrett and Andrew Billings. There is plenty of hope that Jarrett’s production and veteran leadership can pave a way for both Dexter and Turner to have impacts this season as new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will have a plethora of talent to work with on the defensive line.
