We’ve reached Day 52 in our countdown to the New Orleans Saints‘ season opener, which means we have an easy pick for the Saints Play of the Day: Alvin Kamara’s 52-yard catch-and-go touchdown against the Green Bay Packers back in 2020. You can see it for yourself right here.
Kamara was the star of the show on this one, but let’s give his blockers some credit. Erik McCoy got out in front for Kamara and actually achieved a higher top speed than the running back; NFL Next Gen Stats tracking data found that McCoy peaked at 16.22 miles per hour compared to Kamara’s 15.28. That’s insanely impressive.
The Saints drew up a good play here with Drew Brees quickly lobbing the ball to Kamara while McCoy paved a path for him to the end zone. It’s a shame they couldn’t capitalize on this momentum to win the day, but it still turned out to be an electric moment in a game that looked all-but-lost. Brees has already hung up his cleats, and we don’t know how many more years Kamara has left in him. So let’s take some time to appreciate these stars while they’re still wearing black and gold.
