New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was among some of the players who showed up early for training camp on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Veterans are expected to report by July 22, with the first official day of training camp scheduled for July 23. Rookies and quarterbacks are scheduled to arrive on Saturday, July 19.

Maye recently invited his teammates out to North Carolina for a throwing session and some team bonding ahead of training camp. Multiple players took him up on the invitation, including Stefon Diggs, Rhamondre Stevenson, Demario Douglas, Kyle Williams, Kendrick Bourne, Hunter Henry and others.

The Patriots are hoping Maye can build off his impressive rookie season. He threw for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions without much around him last year. The offensive line consistently struggled, and there were limited receiving weapons.

That could all change this season with the arrival of Diggs, Williams and Mack Hollins. The team also improved along the offensive front by drafting tackle Will Campbell and center Jared Wilson, along with signing veteran free agents Garrett Bradbury and Morgan Moses.

Those factors alone could set the stage for Maye to have a breakout sophomore season.
