The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms on a four-year rookie contract with running back RJ Harvey, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis first reported on Thursday afternoon.
Harvey was among a host of second-round draft picks who were in no rush to sign deals after the Houston Texans gave wide receiver Jayden Higgins a fully guaranteed contract. To help get a deal done, Denver guaranteed 47.7% of Harvey’s salary in 2027, according to Klis.
Broncos rookies were scheduled to report on Wednesday ahead of the start of training camp practices next week. Cornerback Jahdae Barron, Denver’s first-round draft pick, reported and signed his deal on Wednesday. Harvey will now join him at the team’s facility, and his deal should be officially signed soon.
The Broncos picked Harvey in the second round of this year’s NFL draft out of UCF. As the 60th overall pick in the draft, Harvey is slotted to earn $7,354,592 over the next four years, according to Spotrac.com. He’ll get $1,988,790 in a signing bonus on a deal that averages $1,838,648 per season.
Harvey (5-8, 205 pounds) was a productive running back with the Knights, totaling 3,498 yards from scrimmage and scoring 52 touchdowns in his final two seasons (25 games) at UCF.
The 24-year-old had the best season of his college career last fall, rushing for 1,577 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 267 receiving yards and three more scores as a receiver out of the backfield.
After the team signed J.K. Dobbins last month, Harvey and Dobbins are expected to serve as Denver’s top two running backs with Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin providing depth behind them.
