New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye opened up on the throwing session he put together with his teammates in North Carolina.

He assembled multiple players from the Patriots’ offense, including Stefon Diggs, Rhamondre Stevenson, Kendrick Bourne, Kyle Williams, Demario Douglas, Hunter Henry and others for some extra work ahead of training camp. There has been an offensive overhaul in New England with new players and the return of longtime offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Maye is looking to get a head start in hopes of hitting the ground running in training camp.

“I think the bonding is more important than, really, the football,” Maye told ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “Just have some dinner, and time in the pool and lake. It was a good time.”

So much has been made about the changes in New England, especially with the hiring of coach Mike Vrabel, but everything hinges on Maye being what the Patriots hoped he’d be when they spent a first-round draft pick on him last year.

If Maye lives up to the hype, it will be smooth sailing into the Vrabel era for New England. If not, they will have to face some tough questions on the other side of the season.
