Our team of NFL Wires editors selected our non-quarterback MVP from each of our respective teams ahead of the 2025 season. For the Indianapolis Colts, my choice was running back Jonathan Taylor.

The production that Taylor has put up over his career, including last season, is reason enough to select him here. Most recently in 2024, Taylor finished the regular season fourth in total rushing yards with 1,431, and he was particularly dominant down the stretch.

Of course, the production element has to be present when discussing a team’s MVP, but beyond that, the biggest reason I chose Taylor is because of the impact he can have on the rest of the offense.

When an offense has a running game to lean on, one that is productive and steadily picks up positive gains, that keeps the offense ahead of the sticks and in manageable down and distances. Operating from second and third-and-shorts gives the offense the upper hand and then can open up opportunities in the passing game.

On the flip side, when the running game is inconsistent, the offense can often find itself behind the sticks and in obvious passing situations, where now the defense has the advantage.

So, along with Taylor’s production, the primary reason he is my non-quarterback MVP choice for the Colts is that when he’s playing at a high level and finding success, he can make the jobs of everyone around him easier, including whoever the Colts’ quarterback is. Taylor’s impact can go well beyond just his own column on the stat sheet.
