The Eagles called the Lions about trading up from 32 for Detroit’s pick at 28 but GM Brad Holmes stood pat and drafted Tyleik Williams
During the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions made their pick in their original draft slot at No. 28 overall. Lions GM Brad Holmes didn’t move up in the first round, and he also opted to not trade back.
Thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles media team, we know Holmes had an opportunity to trade back with the Super Bowl champs. In their in-house version of Detroit’s “Inside the Den”, the Eagles captured the moment when GM Howie Roseman called Holmes about any interest in moving back from the 28th pick.
“Any interest in moving back?” Roseman asks Holmes, who is not heard on the video of the call. The next words from Roseman reflect the Lions commitment to making the pick.
“I appreciate the honesty,” Roseman says to Holmes. He then turns to the rest of the Philadelphia war room and states, “Detroit I just spoke to, they said no.”
The Eagles wound up trading up one spot from 32 to 31, sending the Kansas City Chiefs — the team they just beat in the Super Bowl — an extra fourth-round pick to move up one spot. The Eagles took Alabama LB Jihaad Campbell. Kansas City snagged Ohio State OT Josh Simmons with the 32nd pick.
From the video, the call to Holmes begins at the 5:23 mark, just after Roseman correctly guessed the Falcons made their big trade up to 26 to select Tennessee EDGE James Pearce.
No word yet on if the Lions are releasing a draft version of “Inside the Den” this season as of yet.
