Jamar Richardson, former DB at Ole Miss, hosted a camp in Aliceville where he graduated high school.

Richardson was a three star prospect coming out of high school. He wanted to play division one but didn’t have many offers so he chose the JUCO route.

“Going JUCO helped me grow as a man. It helped me build my work ethic. It helped me get ready for all the battles that I would have at the SEC level,” Richardson said.

Richardson took the road less travelled. There is nothing easy about going the JUCO route and to make it to the SEC from there is a major achievement.

“Chase your dreams, Jamar never gave up. He always pushed and wanted to be drafted, even though he didn’t make it he never quit on his dreams,” Renata Stewart, Jamar Richardson’s mom, said.

Both Jamar and his mom emphasized working hard and pushing for your dreams. “If you can play they will find you,” Richardson said.

The biggest thing camps like this provide, especially for smaller towns like Aliceville, is hope. These kids seeing someone from their home town who made it and achieved the same dream that they have is something money can’t buy.

It was clear to me watching this camp that Jamar and everyone there believes in those kids and that they can do anything.
