LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Ability Center, in partnership with the Las Vegas Raiders, LVAC, UNLV Football Alumni, and Faith Lutheran High School football coaches, is hosting a two-day Inclusive Special Needs Football Camp on July 18 and 19.
The event is designed to provide young teens and young adults with special needs an opportunity to participate in a fun and engaging football experience.
The founder of The Ability Center of Southern Nevada, Chris Salas, said the center collaborated with the Las Vegas Raiders, along with UNLV football alumni, and Faith Lutheran High School to create the football camp.
He goes on to say, “With all the football camps that are going on in the valley right now, we felt compelled to make sure that our special needs community was able to take part.”
On Saturday, participants took part in dynamic football skill-building sessions, including team-building exercises, throwing, punting, catching, and drills, all while wearing official Raiders jerseys.
Jason White was also on hand, assisting with the camp. White is the Director of Fitness for the Ability Center of Southern Nevada.
White says, “I’m responsible for creating adaptive workouts for individuals with special needs. One day, I was sitting around thinking about all the camps that are going on, and I figured these kids need an opportunity to be in the camp themselves.”
The camp aims to embody the spirit of inclusion, empowerment, and community through sport, and the kids also make new friends.
