The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed one player on the PUP list to begin training camp.
With rookies and injured players reporting on Saturday for training camp, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they have placed linebacker Dennis Gardeck on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP).
Gardeck suffered an ACL injury in October of last season when he was with the Arizona Cardinals.
Players who begin training camp on PUP can be activated and available at any time once they are medically cleared.
Although listed as a linebacker, the bulk of Gardeck’s NFL snaps have come at defensive end as a pass rusher, where he can help bolster the depth of that position group, along with providing Anthony Campanile with some flexibility as a box defender as well.
During the 2023 season, Gardeck totaled 42 pressures and six sacks, according to PFF. Gardeck has also been a core special-teams contributor in Arizona, contributing to five of the six different phases throughout his career.
“A ton of respect for the player, competing against him two times a year in LA since 2018,” Liam Coen said of Gardeck during offseason programs. “Every time we would go play the Arizona Cardinals, he was on the game-wrecker board. We would always introduce the game-wreckers to the players; he was on there, whether it was for special teams, and then also for rushing the passer and creating some disruption.”
Coen continued: “It just gives us somebody, a little bit different style rusher, special teams demon,” Coen said. “He was a captain in Arizona on special teams. He had three sacks in a game last year, and had an interception in the following game. So you’re just looking at continuing to find guys that can disrupt the game in a specific way, whether it’s in a DPR (designated pass rusher) or on special teams.”
