The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.

Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook.

Next up is inside linebacker Mykal Walker.

Mykal Walker background, 2024 season

A fourth-round pick by the Falcons in 2020, Walker played four seasons in Atlanta before signing a one-year contract as an unrestricted free agent with the Commanders in 2024. A UFA again this year, he was signed by the Cardinals on March 14. He has started 20 of the 74 games he has played in his career, with 12 of the starts coming for the Falcons in 2022.

Last season in 17 games (no starts), he played 77 snaps on defense (seven percent) and had 10 tackles (seven solo). He also had two tackles in the postseason. On special teams, he played 344 snaps (74 percent) and had 11 tackles (five solo) plus two fumble recoveries. He had two solo tackles on special teams.

Mykal Walker 2025 contract details, cap hit

Walker signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals worth $1.79 million with $500,000 guaranteed and included a $200,000 signing bonus. His base salary is $1.28 million, of which $300,000 is guaranteed. His salary-cap charge is $1.79 million.

2025 questions, roster outlook

A reliable backup on defense, the 28-year-old (on Aug. 28) Walker is expected to continue his core special-teams role with the Cardinals this season.
