Mims, 26, was a standout in college with the Fresno State Bulldogs, accumulating 3,290 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground over his five seasons. The versatile back also added 91 receptions for 771 yards and 8 touchdowns as a receiver.

Despite his impressive showing in college, including a 1,372-yard and 18-touchdown senior season, Mims would go undrafted after the 2023 NFL Draft and sign with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent. His time on the Bills wouldn’t last long as Buffalo would waive the former Fresno State back during the preseason.

Mims would sign with the Saints’ practice squad after being released by the Bills and has spent time on and off the active roster since. Mims didn’t see any action as a rookie, but saw 20 carries in 2024, which he took for 70 yards. The former undrafted free agent also brought in 12 receptions for 71 yards.

After spending two seasons with New Orleans, the Saints would release Mims to create space for wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones. Despite releasing Mims, the Saints have a crowded running back room. The team boasts seven running backs on the roster, ranging from young talent to veterans, who will all be competing for the RB2 spot behind Alvin Kamara.

While there isn’t much more room on the Saints roster for running backs, the Titans are on the opposite end of the spectrum, currently rostering just three other running backs outside of Mims. Tennessee has a solidified RB1 with Tony Pollard and an exciting young talent in Tyjae Spears, but inconsistencies in production and injury history may provide Mims with a bigger role in 2025.
