Will Rogers has secured an NFL opportunity.
The Seattle Seahawks opened rookie minicamp on Friday, bringing their draft picks and undrafted free agent signings to the practice facility for the first time. Alongside them were a heaping handful of tryout players, including previously reported names like former Huskies linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala and previously unreported names like Rogers.
Rogers is the only quarterback at Seahawks camp other than Seattle’s third-round pick Jalen Milroe, but Seattle has nine wide receivers in attendance for the session. To avoid overloading Milroe’s arm before the official start of training camp, Seattle likely wanted to bring in a second arm to deliver some throws to their crop of receivers.
Rogers and Tuputala were the only two Huskies on Seattle’s minicamp roster, as most of the other former Huskies received opportunities elsewhere. Linebacker Carson Bruener was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round. Tight end Keleki Latu signed with the Buffalo Bills, wide receiver Giles Jackson was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles, defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez signed with the San Francisco 49ers, and wide receiver Jeremiah Hunter received a minicamp invitation from the Chicago Bears.
Rogers started all but two games for the Huskies in 2024 after transferring in from Mississippi State, completing 220-of-311 passes for 2,458 yards and 14 touchdowns in 11 games. After not throwing an interception through the first five games of the season, Rogers threw 7 picks in his next 6 games before ultimately being pulled for Demond Williams midway through the UCLA game.
Seahawks rookie minicamp runs May 2-4, but NFL teams are allowed to start their sessions as late as May 8. If Rogers doesn’t catch on in Seattle, he could theoretically travel for another opportunity down the line.
