Despite a carousel of eight different quarterbacks, New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has racked up 3,249 receiving yards in his first three seasons.
Even after that incredible feat, Wilson believes he has left meat on the bone.
Speaking with team reporter Eric Allen following his four-year $130 million extension, Wilson reflected on his first three seasons in New York.
“Do I think I left a lot of plays out there these last three previous seasons? I have,” the Ohio State product told Allen. “Honestly, that’s the part that gets me the most excited, is that I still have a lot of plays left to go make to go prove myself — to my teammates and to this league.”
While Wilson has been productive, there are many areas in his game where he can still improve. Based on his comments, Wilson is focused on making the necessary improvements to become the best player he can be.
Wilson was recently ranked No. 10 in ESPN’s annual wide receiver rankings, compiled from a survey of over 70 league coaches, executives, and scouts. This season, Wilson is looking beyond personal accolades and has his focus on team growth.
“Playing meaningful football in December and January,” Wilson said of his ultimate goal. “I think the rest of the stuff — personal goals that me and my teammates may have — will come with team success.”
Wilson believes his best football is ahead. With a playoff run in mind, he’s determined to shift the narrative in New York.
