The New York Giants will officially report for training camp on Tuesday, and then the race is on to make the 53-man roster.
Unlike in years past, there aren’t an abundance of roster spots available. General manager Joe Schoen has done a decent job back-filling the roster and adding quality depth, leaving precious few spots open.

The Giants will enter camp with 91 players (one on an exemption) and then reduce the roster to 53 players before the start of the regular season. And that begs the question: Will there be any undrafted rookie free agent surprises in 2025?
Kerry Wynn, Will Hill, Henry Hynoski, Jake Ballard, Chase Blackburn, and Victor Cruz are some of the names that come to mind when looking back at the Giants’ history of UDFAs. Is there another diamond in the rough out there?
Here’s a look at several undrafted free agents with the best chance to make New York’s initial 53-man roster.
OL Jaison Williams
The Giants signed Jaison Williams to a three-year, $2.98 million contract that includes $165,000 guaranteed. If they were to cut him, it would leave $155,000 in dead cap this year and $10,000 in dead cap next year.

Williams was given the fourth-most guaranteed money of any undrafted free agent signed this offseason, which immediately gives him a leg-up. Of course, the financials alone aren’t enough to keep a young player around.
The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Williams brings versatility to the Giants. He can play both guard and tackle, and could find himself in a battle for the swing tackle job despite taking guard reps this spring.
Williams took more than 3,000 snaps at right tackle during his college career, which is an abundance of experience many other rookie offensive linemen don’t have.
WR Dalen Cambre
Dalen Cambre is a very interesting player to watch for a multitude of reasons. Chief among them is his special teams prowess. He was one of the best “teams” players in college football throughout his career, finishing second in special teams tackles in 2024.

That’s an area Cambre will need to excel to earn a roster spot because Ihmir Smith-Marsette is a lock, and the Giants like Bryce Ford-Wheaton’s size and athletic makeup.
Then come all the extras that should give Cambre an upper hand. He can serve as the holder on field goal and point after attempts, can play emergency quarterback if needed, learned X, Z and F receiver roles, and has a very high football IQ.
Cambre likely has some of the best odds to earn a roster spot out of camp.
S Makari Paige
One of the few roster spots truly open entering training camp is at safety, where Jevon Holland, Tyler Nubin, and Dane Belton will make up the top three. Who will assume that fourth spot is anyone’s guess at this point.

The 6-foot-4, 208-pound Paige brings some versatility, with the ability to play both safety and nickel cornerback. He’s also the ideal size to excel on special teams, serving as both a blocker and tackler, which could be the key to earning a roster spot.
Paige played last season under former Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, so he may have some inside insight on the Giants, although it’s hard to imagine Wink had many good things to say.
Others
All three undrafted receivers saw action in rookie minicamp and throughout organized team activities (OTAs), and each held their own. The Giants may carry an extra wide receiver into the season, opening the door for two UDFAs to make the roster. If that happens, Cambre seems like the shoo-in with these three battling it out with Ford-Wheaton.

Fortune has good size at a shade under 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, and was named the defensive MVP at this year’s East-West Shrine Bowl game, which was heavily coached and well-attended by the Giants. The team isn’t exactly deep at cornerback, providing Fortune the opportunity to sneak onto the roster.
It’s hard to envision a non-injury scenario where any of the remaining undrafted free agents make the 53-man roster.
