Former Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is aiming for a 12th NFL season.

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Clowney still plans on playing in 2025. The 32-year-old free-agent pass rusher told Anderson that he’s been in contact with four to five teams and that conversations are “intermittently ongoing.”

Clowney, a Rock Hill, S.C. native and University of South Carolina product, spent the 2024 campaign with the Panthers. He tied for a team-high 5.5 sacks while recording 46 combined tackles, his most since 2018.

Carolina released Clowney, who had one year remaining on his contract, in early May. Clowney, in an interview with Joe Person of The Athletic, claimed that he saw the writing on the wall

“I went to OTAs Day 1 and they kinda told me they weren’t expecting me to be there. I got a sense then they wanted me out of the building,” Clowney stated. “I was just like, ‘Y’all could’ve told me this back when I was coming in here during the offseason.’ I kinda had a sense, though. I’ve been around the game long enough to know, so I was OK.”

The Panthers made a few notable additions to the outside linebacker position this offseason, including the selections of Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen from the 2025 NFL draft. They also signed former Minnesota Viking Pat Jones II to a two-year deal worth up to $20 million.
