The Chicago Bears are looking to begin a new era with a new regime, led by new head coach Ben Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles, looking to bring back winning football to the organization.
In one of the last periods of time that the Bears were a winning football team, defensive tackle Spice Adams was causing havoc on a defense that was well respected. Now, Adams, like several of his former teammates, keeps a watchful eye on the franchise and what they’re building.
During the recent 2025 NFL draft, Adams worked in partnership with Tide laundry company, tackling the draft with fellow rookies. Adams, who has traveled the country with Tide to bring the ultimate fan experience and knowledge of Tide products to clean up game day, was back at it for this year’s draft.
In an exclusive interview with Bears Wire, Adams spoke about his work with Tide, the Bears’ selection of rookie tight end Colston Loveland, and much more.
Working with Tide
Having worked with Tide all throughout the 2024 season, Adams once again went to work with them, this time tackling the draft with rookies selected in this year’s class.
“Working with Tide is so dope, man,” Adams said. “What we did during the season with Tide tackles is great, and now they’re focused on tackling gameday. For the first time you’re going to see Tide laundry games. I got some of the draft picks to take part in it with me, and we played different games and taught them things about Tide. You’ve got to put Tide oxi pods in the washing machine before your clothes. It was a good campaign, and I got a chance to clean some of my clothes.”
Colston Loveland
After the Bears made a surprise pick in selecting Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with the 10th overall pick, they sent a clear message that they were going to keep adding playmakers to Ben Johnson’s offense. Adams believes Loveland will do just that in this new-look, potentially dynamic offense.
“He’s only going to add to what the Bears already have, I’m pretty excited,” Adams said. “I was just like everyone else who thought Tyler Warren would be the pick, but they got Loveland, and that’s great because I wasn’t high on Sam LaPorta when he went to the Lions and Johnson and staff turned him into a beast.
“I’m pretty sure the Bears wanted Ashton Jeanty but he wasn’t there, and they would’ve had to give up so much to get up there. I think the Bears got something that works for the offense. The thing I’m most excited about is the areas of concern have been addressed through free agency and all that they added. I can’t lie, I’m fired up.”
Trust in Ben Johnson
When Chicago hired Ben Johnson to be their next head coach, there was excitement far and wide through the organization to the fanbase. While some were confused about the selection of Loveland, Adams says it’s time to trust in the new head coach.
“That’s exactly what people need to do, trust Ben Johnson. They were all excited when he got hired and now that he’s here, trust him,” Adams said. “All that stuff is going to take time. You win and you learn, of course you’ll lose but when you lose you find out why you lost. They’re addressing all the concerns that they have. This will only make Cole Kmet better because teams will have to pick their poison and we have a lot of weapons. I think time is going to heal all.”
Cole Kmet to another level
In most cases, a first-round draft pick could signal the beginning of the end for a certain player if the team drafts his position, but this is not all the case for Cole Kmet. With a head coach like Johnson, Adams believes there’s reason to hope that Kmet gets taken to another level with Loveland on the opposite side of him. Especially given Johnson loves utilizing two tight ends.
“The ball is going to get spread around a lot, Caleb was already doing that but now you get to play to his strengths and put more wrinkles in this offense,” Adams said. “Right now this offense is clay and you can mold it up to whatever you want to be. If I’m Cole Kmet that’s just taking my game to another level, you just have to trust in the scheme of the offense, everything is going to take care of themselves.”
Grady Jarrett a welcomed addition
For all the moves the Bears have made this offseason, Adams believe there was none bigger than signing defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, who won the fanbase over with an electric introductory press conference. He’s an impactful interior pass rusher who also brings leadership to the table.
“There’s no question about his juice,” Adams said. “When him and Andrew Billings get together, they command the room. You’ve got two of the strongest guys in the NFL. Jarrett comes in with a wealth of knowledge and experience that you can’t pay for, and I thought that was a great acquisition. We are really young on the defensive line and with him being in that room, the weight room, and on the field, he’s going to be giving the young guys so many gems. I welcome him in, I can’t wait to see him strap up and get out on the field.”
The Bears have made plenty of changes, and they’re expected to come in with a bit more edge and dirtiness to their game, which is good for Spice Adams and the folks over at Tide to keep their game day clean. It’s the first year for Ben Johnson and company, but they’ve made all the big moves to bolster the roster and bring plenty of optimism for the fan base headed into the 2025 season.
