Chargers add intriguing offensive weapon attempting a comeback, and he has the traits to make a real difference if things finally fall into place originally appeared on A to Z Sports.
It’s a cool feeling to see a name that gives a bit of nostalgia with a blast from the past. On Monday night, the Los Angeles Chargers accomplished just that by making an unexpected veteran signing. They signed former Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines to a contract.

Hines, 28, hasn’t played a down in the NFL since the end of his 2022 season. He spent five years with the Colts before being traded to the Bills at the deadline. In nine games with the Bills, the explosive receiver produced a forgettable six carries for negative three yards, and five receptions for 53 yards and one score.

Hines was a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and took the league by storm with his quickness and versatility. He totaled 306 carries for 1,202 yards and 10 scores, but made a bigger mark as a pass-catcher. He produced 240 receptions for 1,778 yards and eight touchdowns.

His 170 receptions over his first three seasons were a remarkable accomplishment.
Unfortunately, one injury took a massive toll on his professional career. He suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in a jet ski accident almost two years before he signed with the Chargers. The Browns rostered Hines last year, but he was on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the entire season.
Our own Destin Adams has covered Hines throughout his entire career. Here’s what Adams had to say about the dynamic offensive weapon:

“It didn’t take long after he was drafted for Hines to become a massive fan favorite in Indianapolis. His ability to impact the game as both a runner and a receiver out of the backfield, as well as on special teams as a returner, made him a dynamic chess piece at the Colts’ disposal.
Sadly, near the end of his time with the Colts, the team started to feature Jonathan Taylor as a true three-down bell cow, and fewer and fewer snaps were available for other backs like Hines in the room. This led them to trade away the former fourth-round pick, and injuries have derailed his career since.
Hines still has a lot of fans inside the Colts locker room and in the fan base, so I think I speak for all of them when I say I’m rooting for him to make the Chargers roster and carve out a role in LA as he looks to revive his career.”
