The Detroit Lions are coming off arguably the best two-year stretch in franchise history. In 2023, the Lions made it all the way to the NFC Championship before a shocking comeback by the San Francisco 49ers ended their season. Then, the Lions secured the number one overall seed in the NFC last season for the first time in franchise history.
Unfortunately, the host of injuries the Lions suffered last season proved insurmountable, and they fell to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. As much success as the Lions are having, one star member of the offense is tired of coming up short when the games matter most.
“Everybody’s tired of being close,” running back David Montgomery said, according to Eric Woodyard of ESPN. “It’s cool to be close at first, but you don’t want to get comfortable with being close all the time.
“That’s not what you want to be known for, especially when you know you’ve got the guys, you’ve got on this team. You want to finish it, so this is the year for us. The year of the reckoning and the year that we choose that we need to finish.”

“One game at a time! Lions have a great roster, need to stay healthy Go beat the Packers & Bears. Last year Lions were 6-0 in the division and 15-2 Not worried about the playoffs now. Have to play great just to get there! Lets enjoy the whole season!” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Gotta stop the tush push first buddy,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if this is the season the Lions finally get over the hump and defeat the demons of the past failures.
