Laremy Tunsil Ranks As Commanders’ ‘Most Important’ Player As Jayden Daniels’ Bodyguard originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The most important position on an NFL field is the quarterback; that’s why we so often refer to football as “A Quarterback Game.” And the league’s best proof of that might be right here with the Washington Commanders.

Former second-overall pick Jayden Daniels has quickly matured into becoming the face of Washington’s franchise thanks to his rookie heroics in leading the team to the NFC Championship Game last year. Still, as great as Daniels is, there is another player who holds the key to getting the Commanders back into the playoffs.
It’s the newly acquired left tackle Laremy Tunsil.
According to CBS Sports contributor Jared Dubin, the former Houston Texans ranks as Washington’s most important non-quarterback roster member.

“It was tough to choose a player for Washington, which needs to show more improvement on defense than offense. There are so many areas that need work, though, that it’s tough to land on just one player asthe most important,” Dubin wrote.
“So instead we came back around to the Commies’ biggest (literally) offseason addition in Tunsil, who will be counted on to secure Jayden Daniels in the pocket.”
(Sidebar: CBS Sports refers to them as the “Commies”? C’mon, guys.)

It all makes sense. If Daniels is the most important Commander, then protecting Daniels is a most important focus for Washington. If the Commanders can keep Daniels upright, as a thrower and as a runner, too, then there’s a good chance they will continue to be a force with justifiable Super Bowl aspirations.
That’s why Tunsil as a bodyguard is incredibly important going into the 2025 season.
The quarterback position may be the most important spot for every NFL team in this “Quarterback League,” but that fact only accentuates the importance of his protectors… like Tunsil.
