Kansas City Chiefs hold first day of training camp practice

PUP, the people that will start on PUP, Fulton will start on PUP, Joan Taylor and Trey Watson. So those three will start there. Um, everybody else is good to go, um, and we, we should be ripping and ready by tomorrow. So we jump right into it with the testing tomorrow and then we have meetings and uh both business meetings for the NFL and also uh meetings for the football part of it. Um, other than that, we look forward to the season getting started. It’s, uh, it should be *** great environment up here to for learning and, uh, for conditioning with the heat that we’re gonna have, uh, um, and we normally have up here, so it’s, uh, uh, it should get us ready and build *** nice foundation for us to start the season. As far as where she goes, I mean that’s obvious news out there. Now, um, we’re gonna progress as normal with him. He’ll go in and do take all the reps that he’d normally take and uh we always rotate that position. So, uh, depending on what happens here in the future, uh, whoever needs to play will be able to step in. They’ll know what they’re doing and be in good shape to do it. So, uh, but we’re just gonna, like I said, just progress as normal. um, other than that, uh, time’s yours. Any idea as far as the timeline for the punishment handed down from the NFL for? No. I don’t have. Have you had any conversations with the, the length of absence you expect for, um, Fulton and, uh, and Juan. Do you expect them to, well, we’re, we’re hoping that, yeah, I mean, we’re hoping it’s relatively fast, so. I tell you Jawan’s probably closer right now. Andy, you’re always come up here expecting the grind. Is there anything you could describe that’s different about coming in after losing the Super Bowl and winning the last two in last year’s mindset? Yeah, no, this part stays tough. I mean, it’s not it’s never an easy camp and it builds you *** foundation that you can bank on so it’s important that the guys come in in the right frame of mind. They know that. And they pass the word down to the young guys that they better be ready to go, but you know that’s. That helps us, uh, in the long haul. There’s several reports of George Karlo signing *** contract extension. What would it mean to be able to sign him to *** long term deal for this organization? Yeah, that, uh, that would be *** great deal. I think that’s already done just so if you need some breaking news, um, uh, that’s, uh, that’s *** great thing, and, uh, he’s *** heck of *** player and he’s done *** great job here and he’s profiting from that and, uh, our team also is profiting from him being around so. It’s it’s *** win win there. What you see from him late in the season last year? I mean, he’s always been *** consistent player for me. It was particularly late last year. Yeah, he’s *** relentless player. I mean that’s what that’s what you get with George. He’s smart, relentless, um. Uh, you can trust and know he’s reliable. You can trust that he’s gonna be there and do the right things and go 100 miles an hour doing them. So, um, uh, very well respected that way. Coach, have you planned to start with the initial tackle rotation with Josh Simmons and, uh, Juan is out for the beginning of it, so we’ll just flip those two guys and they’ll they’ll work in there and. We’ll go from there. So yeah, but those guys Andy rotates all those guys anyway, so Coachman Carl Of last week Trey Smith today Carl Ofice, how important was it for you as *** coach to have these young core guys locked up for long term deals? Yeah, I, I mean it’s, it’s, uh, it’s great to have great from *** coach’s standpoint to have that. Uh, the tough job is with each having to juggle all the, uh, the financial part of it, um. But we, we love having that, uh, continuity is *** big thing, uh, with, with your good young players and, uh, Veitch has done *** real nice job, uh, with his group, um, uh, in the drafts, uh, and so, uh, you, but to sort all of that out, crochet and the guys, they have to work through all of that, the money part of it, and they, they do *** heck of *** job with it, so and it’s, it’s an ongoing thing, uh, as you go you’ve got really. Have *** good feel and *** good plan for the future as you do it more of *** trade, just the 6th round pick coming up to them how great is that? How great is that, man? 6th round pick came in with *** lung situation and the blood clots and uh was able to work through that and uh it’s *** great thing that he was able to work through that just for his overall health, uh, football or no football, but. Um, to be able to come in and, uh, play it the way at the level that he’s played at and that toughness that he brings with it, so he’s an aggressive, uh, personality on the field, teddy bear off the field, aggressive personality on the field, man. He, he brings it every game. Andy, can you just give us an overview of what you’re gonna be looking for at left tackle with that position in training camp? Yeah, you look, you know, you’re gonna look for the best guy. I mean, to start with that can fill in that spot and that we can have *** little consistency there. Uh, we didn’t have that last year, and so let’s, let’s work at it and see, see what we come up with. We’ve got some good candidates for it and, uh, you know, we’ll just see where it goes. And you’ve always wanted your camps to be hard for, for *** reason. How, how moderated are they from when you first became the head coach? I know the rules changed *** little bit, but I mean, yeah, no, I mean, it’s I’ve been in this with you, so I mean you know we’ve been around *** while, so it’s way different, uh, than when we first got into it, but within the rules, um, and, and you’re, you’re always player safety is number one on this thing, so you, uh, you don’t want to put those guys in *** bind, but, uh, at the same time it’s *** tough sport. And this thing is, it’s tough and so there’s *** point where you gotta reach down and you gotta be able to push yourself through some things and, and these camps still do that. It’s just at *** different level than maybe what it was when I first became *** head coach and you still feel that late, like late in the season and in *** December game you you you feel like you can picture how this they draw from, from this, yeah, listen, I listen to the players. I mean that’s what I do. I’m, I’m, I use those guys as kind of the thermometer on things that. Um, they’ll, they tell you, they go, man, I’m glad we did those long drive drills. I mean they pay off we hate them, but I’m glad we did them, you know, and, and, uh, they pay off at the end. Andy, when it comes to Josh Simmons, how much of that are you interested in just the conditioning part of it, and has he been given the all clears to fully participate? Yeah, listen, he, he stayed up here this whole break. He’s been here and, uh, working his tail off and um. Uh, so it looks like he, uh, in the way he finished phase three, but it looks like he’s ready to go, and we’ll keep an eye on him and see, see where he’s at, but, um, his condition, he was good when he was out there, and, um, you know, he seems to be *** worker, so we’ll just have to see. He’s never been through one of these, so we gotta see how it goes. We always ask of the players, you know, what they bring, you know. As many years as you’ve come here, what are you starting to bring or what difference do you bring when you come to camp and stay here and divorce? Yeah, it seemed like I brought less this year, so I, I don’t know, uh, uh, maybe Srp took care of me. I don’t know, so I, I felt like I didn’t bring very much perish, you know, they’ve got all the shorts and everything, so for us, and that’s all you wear up here. Andy, is the, is the first team meeting tomorrow? Is that, is that right? I, um, even you’ve had some time to think about it, is there *** certain Message you want to start training camp with the guys? Yeah, I’ll hit them with that first name, but uh it’s, it’s always, uh, expectations are always are always high, um, and that that’s ***, that’s *** plus, and the guys that have been here have earned that right to have it that way and, um, but at the same time, you know, you’ve got to maintain that and, and even strive to be better. I mean the. AFC West is *** tough conference and, and it’s not getting any worse, that’s for sure. I mean these guys, it’s good coaching and they’ve got good players, so uh just that alone is *** great challenge for us and um. And so here, here we sit and we have an opportunity to be put ourselves in *** position to make ourselves better every day that we go through this thing. So, uh, let’s do that. Just how last year went for Hollywood and you know missing most of the years how important will this can be both for him and Worthy and to have both your burners on the outside and so yeah, sure that. Um, it’ll be great to have them out there. Yeah, when they were when they were together out there last year, that was, uh, for camp for the part of camp that they were there, that was, uh, that was *** positive for us. Three more. Herbie go ahead. So specific to the left tackle position, I think, I think it’s been more than *** decade since you’re entering training camp with an actual battle that acquisition group since you’ve been here. Do you find yourself having to place *** timeline on when you would expect or you wanna see someone emerge and then that that’ll be your guy going forward? I think by the time you get out of this thing you’d like to have an idea who that is, right? You, you wanna have *** feel on it, so we evaluate these guys every player, uh, for whether it’s *** light practice or *** hard but they’re evaluated and uh graded and so on. So, uh, we’ll see how it all sorts out. Steven, how does the fact that left guard has *** battle also affect you’d like to have the two starters work together some before the season starts. How does that affect the dynamic that both of those spots are open right now? Yeah, I’m OK with that. These are young guys that are gonna get in there and compete, and I think that’s *** positive thing, and, uh, we, we’re gonna come out with some of that that that’s *** good player, so I, I’m good with it. Yeah. Last one, Sam Rashid, you said you expect him to just uh. Still take as many reps as he normally was, but I just based on last year’s injury, obviously we’ll keep an eye on that, yeah, yeah, for sure, yeah, we’ll keep an eye on that part, but, but as far as pulling back because of suspensions or whatever that whole thing is and you know we’re we’re going forward with it and uh and then we’ll monitor him as far as the injury goes. But he came out good, yeah, he did did *** great job during the offseason program too. OK, thanks guys. Alright, thank you. Good seeing you.
