The New Orleans Saints have a pretty huge decision to make this offseason when it comes to their roster, as one of the more notable camp battles could come down to the wire. With the quarterback position being one that has pretty much completely turned on its side in the past few months, things have become intriguing, looking at how it may pan out. With Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener set to compete throughout training camp and potentially into the preseason, the QB1 race is no doubt the one to watch.
With the first day of training camp in the books, some information is starting to trickle out about how things were run and who played where. One of the most notable points of emphasis is that Rattler took first-team reps on Day 1, as was observed by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. In a follow-up report from Mike Triplett at New Orleans.Football, Kellen Moore said Rattler got the nod for the first day of camp given his prior year of experience as a pro, and that Shough will take first-team reps on Day 2. We’ll see if that rotation includes Haener on Day 3.

Logically, this all makes sense in the grand scheme of things. If the team were to give Shough first-team reps on Day 1, it would have been an interesting decision to say the least. It sounds as though both players are on relatively equal footing heading into training camp, so now it is just a matter of who stands out more. With Derek Carr out of the picture entirely, it is up to the young group of quarterbacks to figure out who among them has what it takes to start Week 1.
