A season ticket holder is suing the Los Angeles Chargers over funds paid for 2025’s season ticket plan, with the “home” game against the Kansas City Chiefs — a game that will be played in Brazil — at the heart of the matter.

Alex Schiffer of Front Office Sports detailed a suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by the plaintiff, Devin Abney.

“The allegation at the heart of the suit is simple: The Chargers advertised nine home games, charged fans for nine, and then gave them eight,” Schiffer wrote. “Team policy says ‘if the [team] play the game elsewhere than SoFi Stadium or if it is cancelled and not rescheduled, the sole remedy shall be refund of the original ticket purchase price.’ But according to the complaint, when Abney asked the Chargers for a refund of the ticket, he was denied.”

Schiffer also detailed that “The Chargers and NFL did not comment.”

The suit filed includes several photos of emails sent by the Chargers or advertisements posted by them listing the Chiefs among the 2025 home opponents.

“We are hopeful that the Chargers will make this right and honor the trust of their loyal fans,” said the plaintiff’s attorney Rana Ayazi, per Schiffer.

It was announced in May that the Chargers and Chiefs will open their 2025 seasons on Friday night of Week 1 in Brazil. This will be the second consecutive year that the NFL will have a Week 1 game in Brazil (the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles played in 2024) and will be the first game in NFL history to be broadcast exclusively on YouTube.
