JACKSONVILLE – This was the beginning – and for the beginning, it was good.

The Jaguars opened their first training camp under first-year head coach Liam Coen early Wednesday morning. It was comparatively cool, comparatively short – and at the same time, comparatively intense.

And overall, Coen was comparatively pleased.

“Pretty solid,” Coen called Day 1.

Coen spoke to the media Wednesday morning following a 90-minute Day 1 practice in temperatures in the low 80s at the Miller Electric Center. The practice featured shorts and helmets – with camp’s first padded practice scheduled for Monday.

Wednesday’s work, while short and cool, was spirited and featured two 11-on-11 and two seven-on-seven periods – with the offense running effectively at times and with quarterback Trevor Lawrence showing quality timing with receivers such as second-year veteran Brian Thomas Jr., rookie Travis Hunter and veteran free-agent acquisition Dyami Brown.

“It’s better than the spring – I think for everyone,” said Lawrence, who spent the ’25 offseason program learning the details of his third offensive system in five NFL seasons. “I speak for myself, but I assume the offense feels very similarly.

“It just feels good to know the system and to hear the calls and to go play and to not think as much. It feels more like second nature.”
