Tennessee’s general manager Mike Borgonzi made the official announcement on Tuesday, just a day before training camp started.

Borgonzi claimed the linebacker informed him of his decision to end his NFL career just 24 hours beforehand.

Carter was a third-round Draft pick that was signed by the New York Giants in 2018.

The Memphis native spent four seasons with the Giants and amassed 49 appearances.

The Tennessee star also registered 153 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks during his time in New York.

Carter then spent the last three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

The 2024 season saw him play 13 times and registering 32 tackles, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble and a career-low zero sacks.

It was announced on March 20 that the Titans had landed Carter for the upcoming season before his shock retirement.

That poses as yet another setback for Tennessee, who also lost Will Levis to a season-ending shoulder injury.

Levis decided to undergo surgery, which means head coach Brian Callahan will be deprived of his services at quarterback.

Therefore, rookie Cam Ward, who was signed as the No. 1 overall Draft pick, will have to run most of the first-team offense during training camp.
