The Indianapolis Colts’ two big free additions were named among the most impactful moves made during the 2025 NFL offseason.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen compiled his list of the 50 best offseason signings, trades, and draft picks. Coming in at No. 22 on his list was the Colts‘ addition of cornerback Charvarius Ward, and at No. 45 was the signing of safety Cam Bynum.

Ward is only one year removed from an All-Pro performance in 2023, which included him piling up five interceptions and 17 pass breakups.
His ability to operate on an island and defend a variety of pass-catching skill sets makes him an ideal fit for Lou Anarumo’s more aggressive and disguise-heavy scheme.
While it’s only been one training camp practice, Ward has already made a strong first impression.
“Very impressed,” Shane Steichen said of Ward, via Locked on Colts. “Great signing by Chris (Ballard) to get him on this football team. You saw how sticky he was and the plays he made. I don’t know how many he made today, but he made a ton. Great to have him out there.”

Bynum, meanwhile, is a very versatile defender, which again, aligns well with what Anarumo wants to do schematically with throwing a variety of looks at opposing quarterbacks.
With his past experience as a cornerback, Bynum is comfortable operating in space, he can play near the line of scrimmage, and can handle both zone and man coverage responsibilities. And like Ward, he’s had strong ball production in previous seasons as well.
“Bynum fits in both the single-high and split-field coverages that Anarumo will employ,” Bowen wrote. “He is a glider over the top who can also fill the alleys as a run defender.”
The Colts signed Bynum to a four-year, $60 million deal and Ward to a three-year, $54 million contract.
