After enduring a draining 2024 season, the 25-year-old bounced back by signing a five-year, $256 million contract extension with San Francisco, officially making him the face of one of the league’s most iconic franchises for the foreseeable future — oh, and he sort of autographed a dog on Wednesday.
Purdy respectfully stamped his signature on a fan’s chihuahua carrier right in front of the tiny tail-wagger’s curious eyes on the first day of 49ers training camp. No, you did not read that wrong.
Swarmed by members of the Faithful chanting his name, Purdy iconically gave the parents of the pupper a memory to cherish forever — and perhaps a reason to never wash the carrier for the rest of time.

Though it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Purdy showed the canine love. After all, Purdy has that “dawg” in him on the gridiron.
Purdy enters his fourth season with San Francisco having collected 722 career regular-season pass completions for 9,518 yards and 64 touchdowns on a sturdy 67.5-percent completion rate. The 49ers surely hope he keeps striving for greatness, especially as the team has a bone to pick with the league after finishing fourth in the NFC West and missing the NFL playoffs in 2024.
But for now, Purdy’s impact is worthy of excitement among 49ers fans — and, perhaps, maybe even a round of a-paws.
