Catch of the day: This goes to rookie wide receiver Dominic Lovett who had a leaping one-handed catch down the right sideline in a 7-on-7 period. It was across the field from where I was standing so I couldn’t tell if he got his feet inbounds or not. The defensive players standing there waved him out of bounds. Still, it was a great catch. Lovett is battling for one of the last receiver spots on the roster and has flashed here and there the first week of camp.

Versatility: Head coach Dan Campbell loves versatile players, and eight-year veteran defensive back Avonte Maddox is proving to be just that for Detroit’s defense. He nearly had an interception playing the No. 3 safety role in an early team period and a few plays later was at cornerback and made a nice play along the sideline. The Lions can use him at both safety and cornerback, much like they do with Brian Branch, and having a number of those players is invaluable throughout the course of the season.
