SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Entering his sixth season with the Chargers, quarterback Justin Herbert is on the edge of history.
“He’s in a great place in every part of his game,” said Bolts Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. “There’s really nothing he can’t do.”

The 27-year-old sits just 1,608 passing yards shy of cracking the NFL’s Top 100 all-time list, and after averaging nearly 4,000 passing yards over the last three seasons, 2025 is shaping up to be special.
“(16-year-old) me probably wouldn’t believe it,” Herbert said. “I think that’s a cool thing, I think about all the guys that helped me get there. All the receivers, tight ends, running backs.”
“I unfortunately completed one to Storm Norton,” joked Herbert, a former lineman now with the Atlanta Falcons, “it’s not a single effort, it’s all those guys, and I appreciate it.”
Through his first five seasons in the league, Herbert threw for 21,093 yards and 137 touchdowns.

He’s earned NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, as well as one appearance in the Pro Bowl.
“He goes about trying to be better today than he was yesterday,” Harbaugh said. “A perfectionist in the best possible way. It’s not self-glorification that he’s after, it’s for winning our team a Super Bowl.”
Justin Herbert and his Chargers open their season against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 5.
